It’s been a crazy winter in Baton Rouge. Between the wind and the snow, there’s never been a better time to escape the chill by visiting a local museum. You can add a little culture to your life and avoid getting frostbite during this crazy southern winter.
USS Kidd Veterans Museum
You don’t have to be a big history buff to get a kick out of the USS Kidd Veterans Museum. You see this Fletcher-class destroyer every time you visit downtown Baton Rouge, and now it’s time to take the next step and go inside. You’ll get a firsthand look at what it was like onboard a military ship. The ship is set up just like it was during World War II, so you’ll learn quite a bit. The tour is self-guided, so you can go at your own pace, and there’s a nice museum to pick up some goodies after your tour.
LSU Rural Life Museum
The LSU Rural Life Museum is a collection of buildings and antiques located on a single property. You can spend a couple of hours exploring the grounds on your own, but you’ll get much more out of it if you take a guided tour. The guides explain everything really well and give you some insight you won’t get with the self-guided tour. Bring your camera along for the tour. There are tons of photo ops on the grounds.
Knock Knock Children’s Museum
If you have kids, you can’t beat the Knock Knock Children’s Museum. This is the latest addition to the Baton Rouge museum scene, and it was well worth the wait. Your kids will probably start by going through the entire museum. After they tear through it, they’ll go back to their favorite activities. Those activities can hold their attention for hours. You kids won’t just have fun. They’ll learn a thing or two, as well, which is always a win for parents. Admission is a little pricey, but you can save by purchasing a membership. Then, you can go every time it gets a little chilly outside.
These museums are going to fill your days with lots of fun. Eventually, the weather will warm up, though, and you’ll want to go back to exploring other areas. You’ll need a good ride to take you everywhere you want to go, and Brian Harris Chevrolet in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, can help. Stop by and see us before you head to the next museum. It’s warm inside of our office, and we will be happy to help you find the best vehicle for your needs.
